Information regarding upcoming changes in US Youth Soccer

Letter to our CFC Parents/Players:

This past fall the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), which governs all of soccer in the United States, has made changes to our current youth development system, in order to better and safely develop soccer in the US.

The three main changes are:
1) Restrictions on heading the ball during training sessions and competition.
2) Mandating small-sided game formats for younger age groups.
3) Player age group cut-off dates changed to January 1st – December 31st. (Fall 2016)

Change One: restrictions on heading the ball during training sessions and competition is meant to be a recommendation and one which the club will review to formalize a plan of implementing those changes throughout our program. For more information please see the link below:

Change Two: mandating small-sided game formats will be discussed with our coaching staff and will mainly affect our academy program players ages 6-8 years old. Please see link below for more information:

Change Three: player age group cut-off dates have been changed from school calendar year to January 1st through December 31st, and is regarded as “Birth Year” now. At this time the ECNL, MRL, and National League have all announced the implementation of Birth Year rosters starting Fall 2016 for their members.

CFC is currently working with OYSAN, leagues (TPL, State League), and other clubs to discuss the roll out of those changes.

Our staff will meet throughout the winter to review these changes and plan accordingly in order to continue performing to the best of our ability in all our national, regional, and state / local leagues and events. Once our plans are finalized they will be conveyed to all members prior to the 2016 Fall Season Tryouts. As with any change made that affects not only our club, but soccer competition nationally, there will be significant amount of time between when the announcements are made and implementations completed.

As some of you might have noticed, some of our teams have already begun experimental/trivial events, such as open practices, inviting specific age group players that might spill over to other CFC teams. These types of events will be popping up periodically and are being used to help us with the planning of these upcoming changes.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us directly.
